So, I think I finally solved the EGR port problem and I am trying to make sure this van runs for another 30-80K miles. When the engine idles and the oil is pretty hot, the oil lamp (idiot light) on the dash flickers and is sometimes steady, but you can feel the engine doing it’s thing while the oil light flickers.

They probably refilled with a thin oil like a 0W30 or 5W30. If you went with a thicker oil, it wouldn’t flow through the bearings as fast and the pressure would be higher. Slip it into neutral to raise the RPM’s until you get it changed. You could try some STP or Lucas oil treatments which generally increase the viscosity.

I think the problem may be with either the oil pump and any pressure relief valve, or the oil pressure gauge and/or wiring. What I would do is with the engine idling, wiggle the wire plug at the oil pressure switch and see if the light does flicker off and on, so you may need a helper.

The oil symbol keeps flicking on and off intermittedly. It started after an oil change, the oil and the pressure is fine. Its just had a second oil switch change and it still continues to flick. Most at a stop.

The engine oil light is coming on when braking, is the below true. When you take your foot off the throttle and then you apply brakes it could be an oil pressure issue. Whilst you accelerate you are building up speed and at the same time you are building up oil pressure.

Make sure the oil light goes off in this time. Turn off the engine, then restart it and see if the light goes out at idle. Drive the car at highway speeds. See if the light comes back on. If it does, then I’d assume that the oil pressure switch is dead. Replace it with a new one.
