Is it easy to shift a 1086 tractor?
I have worked on many 1086 tractors, The shifting has always been a problem. There is no kit that I know of to make it shift easyer, We use to weld the shifter links onto the spline shifter tubes to take out slop. and also make sure all the joints are tight.

What to do if your power reverser won’t work?
All works good, UNTIL I backed up to the shop hooked a post hole digger on, moved it into position set parking brake, started pto got out of tractor and was helping the digger a bit, Seat alarm was working when I got out, got back into the tractor and lifted the hole digger and shut pto off.
