What should I do before changing the voltage on my Generator?
As Memmolo suggested, prior to doing anything else, make sure the generator is working properly and check the condition of the battery. It would be a good idea to check the wiring between the generator, voltage regulator, and the battery as well. The generator should be “polarized” before testing, and after a new voltage regulator is installed.
What kind of generator does a GM truck use?
By the end of 1962, Delco generators were gone from GM except in industrial, farm and marine applications. A good old fashioned 12 volt, 35 amp Delco Generator. What causes the generator light to come on in a Speedo?
If you suspect that the battery has a bad cell or two, you can buy a hydrometer from any FLAPS. This simple device checks the specific gravity of the battery electrolyte in each cell. A bad cell can cause the generator/alternator to overcharge the other cells which will trigger the generator light in the speedo.
What happens if a generator goes wonky in the alternator?
A generator that’s gone wonky can damage or weaken the regulator which may come back to haunt you later down the road. In the alternator, you can’t do this trick as the brushes are built into the internal regulator and they both get replaced as a single unit.

Can a weak solenoid cause a car to not start?
Although rare, a weak solenoid can allow the starter to spin without engaging the engine’s flywheel or flexplate. In such a scenario, you’ll hear the starter spinning, but the engine won’t crank. It’s possible for high resistance in the starter solenoid to cause the contacts to burn.
