Why does my carpet feel sticky and damp?

Why does my carpet feel sticky and damp?

As the water slowly evaporates and the carpet dries, the residual soap and chemicals dry into the carpet fibers. It is this residue that gives the carpet a stiff, sticky, hard or “crunchy” texture. It is quite similar to how your hair would feel if you rubbed shampoo into it but did not properly rinse the shampoo out.

How do I know if there is mold under my carpet?

Determining whether there is mold in carpet is fairly easy.

  1. Look for circular patterns of brown, green or black stains on the carpet.
  2. Smell the carpet for pungent musty or sour odors.
  3. Feel the stained area with your hand for the presence of moisture.

Why is there a lot of damp under my flooring?

Leaking pipes – This includes radiator pipes and drains. Poor ventilation – The space under your floorboards must have good airflow to prevent damp. Rising damp is a big cause of damp under floorboards. This is most likely due to not having a damp proof course, or the DPC being damaged. Penetrating damp can also be present under flooring.

Why does my carpet have condensation in it?

Not always JohnD. If the original floor is parquet or mosaic flooring which now has been covered with any plastic or dpm kind of underlayment the normal evaporation (old method) through the parquet or mosaic has been blocked = hence “condensation” damp coming up through the floor is not what I would call condensation.
