Are there any problems with the Chevy Equinox Ecotec engine?
Chevrolet Equinox and Malibu models seem to be the most affected. The main problem with 2.4L Ecotec timing chains are the tensioners and upper bolt. When the tensioner fails it allows the timing chain to develop slack. In turn, the timing chain can jump a few teeth. To make matters worse, the 2.4 Ecotec is an interference engine.
Why does my Chevy Equinox engine not start?
Engine Won’t Start – If your Equinox’s timing chain or belt has fallen off completely, broken, or has jumped a few teeth, it is entirely possible that the engine won’t even start. You might hear it slapping around as the engine cranks over. If this is the case, the damage is already done.
