Why are the brake lights not working on my Chevy S10?

Brake lights work when the lights are not engaged, Reverse turns on the brake lights, the emergency flashers cause the flashers to engage, as well making the license plate lights to flash. But here’s the really wierd thing, when I turn on the headlights, the lights on the rear just die.
