882’s are not swirl heads…they was in production between about ’72 and ’78 or so…easily the most common of the smog heads. They was made several years before swirl heads came out. Look under the intake valve in the bowl area…if about 1/2 of the bowl is blocked off then you have a swirl port head.

Which is better 882 head or 185 head?

882s will be better heads because of the bigger intake valves. They will not produce a huge power difference when compared to the 185 heads though. As stated, use the Felpro 1094 steel head gaskets. Coat the head gaskets on both sides with aluminum spray paint or copper gasket sealer to help seal them to the block and heads.
