When to replace timing belt and water pump on Toyota Camry?
Save yourself a bundle by doing some general maintenance on your Camry’s engine yourself. This article applies to the Toyota Camry (1997-2011). Many Camry owners dread the 60,000 mile marker because of the costly timing belt and water pump recommended maintenance interval.
Where is the water pump on a Dodge Grand Caravan?
This repair is difficult, owing to the location of the water pump on the front of the engine, under the timing belt cover. With the front of the engine torn down this is a good opportunity to also replace the timing belt and front crankshaft and camshaft seals. I completed these jobs on a 2000 3.0L Dodge Grand Caravan.
What happens if you have a broken timing belt?
The last thing you want to do is to strand yourself because of a broken timing belt or busted water pump. Being stranded is the least of your worries at this point. Driving in either one of these conditions can lead to serious engine damage and a major repair expense.
How do you replace a power steering belt on a Toyota Camry?
Remove the bolts to get access to the air conditioning and power steering belts. Use a wrench to put onto the tensioner pulley (12 mm bolt) to create slack in the belts and remove each belt. Inspect them for cracking or wear and replace with new ones while you have them off. Figure 6. Remove the power steering and air conditioning belts.

Is the timing belt on a Camry 3mzfe interchangeable?
Most engine components in the 1MZFE are interchangeable with the 3MZFE, including the timing belt, tensioner pulley, and guide pulley, although the 3MZFE has a different tensioner configuration. See my other article for replacement of a timing belt on the four-cylinder Camry (the 5SFE engine).
How do you remove a pulley from a Toyota Camry?
If you are extremely lucky, the pulley will come off by hand once you remove the two smaller bolts that hold it in place. This is likely not going to be that easy. You will want to use a pulley removal kit that can be had pretty cheaply. Make sure you use one like in the figure below.

What happens if the timing belt breaks on a Camry 5sFE?
The 5SFE is a “non-interference” engine, meaning that if the belt breaks while the car is running, the valves and pistons are unlikely to be damaged. Thus you can use these instructions to replace a broken timing belt, as well as one that is just due to be replaced.
When does the timing belt on a water pump fail?
For one, the water pump’s lifespan is typically 60,000-100,000 miles. And if the timing belt fails, whether due to simple age, or the failure of a tension pulley or bearing, the water pump will likely fail along with it.
What causes oil leak in Toyota Camry 5sFE?
Oil leaks from the vicinity of the passenger-side front wheel may indicate a need to replace the timing belt and seals. The 5SFE is a “non-interference” engine, meaning that if the belt breaks while the car is running, the valves and pistons are unlikely to be damaged.
