When to align oil pump rod and distributor?
When to align oil pump rod and distributor?
THAT is where you want the rotor to point when you first attempt to reinstall the Distributor. The oil pump rod will align up as it was before and the rotor will fall in place as it was before pointing to the spot it was before. Rather than a screwdriver…
How do you line up an oil pump?
The easy way is to line up #1 firing position on the engine and distributor rotor and with the distributor almost bottomed one person keeps light downward pressure on the top of the distributor while another person clicks over the engine. Distributor will drop in when the shaft aligns and will stay in time as the gear is turning with the engine.
When to remove distributor clamp from oil pump?
Remove the Distributor clamp and then the distributor. NOTING the direction the rotor turns and the position the rotor is in when it has been lifted out about 1-2″ so it is no longer meshing with the camshaft. THAT is where you want the rotor to point when you first attempt to reinstall the Distributor.
What kind of screwdriver to use for oil pump?
I have a long screwdriver with a mark across the top that corresponds with the blade of the screwdriver at the bottom. I turn it so that the oil pump slot is about 30* CCW from where you want the rotor to point when it’s fully home.
