When does coolant come out of the exhaust?

When does coolant come out of the exhaust?

This normally happens shortly after startup but goes away after the exhaust is hot. If you are seeing white steam/smoke from the exhaust after 20 minutes of driving, stop and smell (a few feet away) the vapors coming out. A coolant leak will present as a very white smoke/steam and have a noticeably sweet smell.

What does it mean when coolant leaks from exhaust manifold?

If there is a problem in this system you may find that coolant leaks from the exhaust manifold. What does this mean? It is possible that the coolant has worked its way through your system and you have now noticed it leaking from the exhaust manifold or the tail pipe. This is more than a cracked coolant reservoir or a hole in your radiator.

Why is my Turbo leaking coolant into the exhaust?

I cannot really think of any other explanation for the coolant leak…. None of that would send coolant into the exhaust. There are no seals in the turbo that keep coolant out of the exhaust. If your turbo is really doing this, it would be dead. The center section would need to be seriously cracked.

Why is antifreeze coming out of the exhaust?

If it is the cylinder head/gasket you will find the cooling system will rapidly over-pressurise and may possibly have a cylinder misfire on the affected cylinder. Squeeze the top radiator hose after starting the engine and giving it a good rev; if the hose is very hard you have a blown head gasket.

What to do when coolant is coming out of the exhaust?

If there is a head gasket leak or cracked cylinder head, this can be detected by a shop by analyzing the coolant to see if it contains exhaust gases. In any case, if you really think that you are losing coolant through the engine, stop driving the car and have it checked for intake manifold and head gasket leaks by a qualified mechanic.
