Hi ram4x4, This could be loose connecting rods or a worn bearings/seal causing the crank to be off-center. These noises never turn out good over time. Why does my Dodge 4.7 make a ticking noise?
There was clearly an exhaust leak at the front of the engine because I could see carbon build-up where exhaust gasses were blowing out around the manifold. Two more studs broke off during removal. And FYI for anybody tapping exhaust manifold bolts on a 4.7, they are M8 x 1.25. Get 10.9 (metric) grade replacement bolts and use anti-seize.
