I found that both the radiator fan and the AC fan weren’t working. or replace the fans, relays, temperature switch or even the fuses. The temperature switch is an easy repair and it’s even easier to replace. You can get the part from Amazon.com for cheap!

I don’t think mine is the “pigtail” issue from Bryan, since my fan assy. (incl. fan module) has been replaced (twice), which would have included a new pigtail and wiring I believe. The PCM is a vendor-direct part, coming from CA (I’m in VA), and thus takes a week to arrive.

What happens when a fuse is blown on a car?

A fuse supports almost everything electrical in a car. If there is an electrical surge going towards a piece of electronic equipment, the fuse cuts the electric supply to that particular equipment saving it from destruction. This is what we call a blown fuse. A blown fuse is no big deal, and changing one does not cost a lot of money.

Which is the hot wire on a radiator fan?

Place a jumper wire across the terminal that had power with the key off and the terminal that was dead and did not go to ground. This is the fan hot wire. Set the voltmeter to volts and check the fan wires to see which of the two is the power wire. Mark this wire or remember which one it is. Disconnect the negative cable to the battery.

When to turn on the radiator fan switch?

When the switch is turned on, the power is sent back to the relay, through the relay and to ground, which activates the switch. The fan switch should be left on except when cruising. When the vehicle comes to a stop and no air is moving through the radiator, the fan should be on.

When do you know it’s time to replace the fan clutch?

According to Hayden, here are some signs your fan clutch might need replaced: Fan spins excessively when engine is stopped (three or more times when hot engine is shut off). Poor A/C performance at idle or low vehicle speeds. Fan speed does not increase when engine is hot.

How does a clutch fan work on a car?

Clutch fans are controlled by a thermostat and utilize a clutch to engage or disengage the fan at a specified engine speed or temperature. However, the fan’s clutch never fully disengages—it keeps spinning at about 30 percent of the water pump speed at all times.

What are the different types of fan clutches?

Types of Fan Clutches. The main types are non-thermal, thermal, and electronic — all of which use a silicone fluid to engage and disengage your fan. Non-thermal clutches operate solely based on the shaft speed of the water pump. At low and idling speeds, the clutch allows the fan blade to turn at almost a 1:1 ratio.

What’s the difference between thermal and non thermal fan clutches?

However, non-thermal clutches are a lower-cost option than thermal-style clutches. The thermal fan clutch operates in response to underhood temperatures.
