How do you wind a Seiko 7002?

The 7002 does not hand wind. You have to give it the “Seiko shake” to wind it up. With the ones I’ve owned, simply wearing it isn’t enough to keep it wound up. You’ll have to gently shake the watch head from side to side for a few minutes.

The 7002 was produced from 1988 until 1996. One of the great buyer’s references on the Seiko 7002 diver still exists from 2009 on Watchuseek.

Are there any quartz movements in the Seiko 7002 diver?

Dial feet positions of 7002 dials don’t match across the movements mentioned. I am not aware of quartz movements that transfer into the 7002 diver cases as they do between 754x and 6309.

When did Seiko stop making the 6309 series?

Anyhow, in 1988, Seiko decided to end production of the 6309 series of movements and replaced this watch with the Seiko 7002 and its 7000-series of movements. We’ll never truly know why Seiko made the switch, but a look at the movement shows stamped versus machined parts, a lot more plastic, and less expensive finishing.

Is the 7002 date wheel compatible with the 7009 movement?

The 7009 movement is a day date version of the 7002 date only movement. and will fit directly into the 7002 divers case. You will have to use the 7002 date wheel to get the date to align in the window. 7002 stem and crown plugs straight into the 7009 movement.

When did the Seiko Turtle Case come out?

The Turtle was made from 1976 until 1982. In 1982, Seiko introduced the 6309-7290, which carried over the movement complete with day/date function, but brought in a slimmer case that’s still with us today in the form of the iconic SKX007. If you’re keeping track, this case style actually debuted on a quartz diver in the late 70’s, the beloved 7548.
