Location:Saugus,Ca. That shift mechanism has a rod that can be disconnected and pushed back to allow the shift lever to move.Get under the dash and look for it next to the steering column on the right side, the rod will just pop of with a little help from a flat blade screwdriver, had to do this to wifey’s ’99 Burb a few years ago.

Why is my GMC Sierra c 1500 shifter stuck?

A friend of mine has a 1998 GMC Sierra C 1500 that had a broken shift mechanism on the column. He’s a older guy so I offered to help him out. There is an interlock system on the column (BTIS, brake transmission interlock switch) and a brake light switch that prevent shifter movement unless the brake pedal is depressed. So, I put a jumper wire on both the brake pedal switch and the shift solenoid. I figured if those switches were bad then jumpers should fool the system.
