Located grounds behind the dash may be a pain so I wouldnt recommed digging to much for it unless you find an issue with high resistance or open ground.

Near the master cylinder area you should find auxiliary relay box 3 which has the 2 shift relays for the transfer case motor. make sure pins 86 and pins 87 have power to them on both relays. check for a good ground on both pin 87a. Let me know your results.
