What happens when you inject diesel in a Ford Transit?
It injects diesel fuel to raise the DPF to a very high temp to burn off accumulated particulate matter, primarily, soot. This does occur on a cycle when the the DPF sensors determine the filter is filling up. It can be also manually started on some vehicles.

How does Def work on a Ford Transit?
The Reductant (DEF) Control Module monitors NOx sensors to know how much DEF to inject, so it would know almost immediately there was a problem. So it would seem the diesel fuel had to have entered the tank very shortly before your CEL came on….and not at your last fill 2,000 miles ago.
Where do I Fill my Ford Transit diesel tank?
BTW the DEF tank filler port is too small to get an auto diesel or truck size fuel nozzle in it… RalSteve- the tanks are completely separate. Filled at a station pump. I will try to track down receipt to see which station it was. Was the DEF fill up recent or just prior to the onset of the problems? Was not recent…. Couple thousand miles ago.

Hello and thanks in advance for the help. 2015 Transit 250 diesel, no problems until 12k miles. Intermittent lack of power with a check engine light appearing several miles later. Brought to dealer, they replicated the issue, but were reluctant to diagnose it right away.

What causes check engine light to go off on Ford Transit?
Intermittent lack of power with a check engine light appearing several miles later. Brought to dealer, they replicated the issue, but were reluctant to diagnose it right away. They cleared the codes and told me to drive it until it happened again. Light was back on in 10 miles.
