While on the phone with 911, I was able to get the car to release the door locks and we escaped. The doors automatically locked and could not be opened. Evidently the battery was dead and the system shut down. There was no indication the battery was low. Having doors automatically lock and be disabled due to a battery is a huge safety hazard.
