Why does my Freelander make a clunking noise when I put it into gear?
If you have a clunking noise from the rear of your Freelander, particularly when you first put it into gear, it is highly likely that this is your rear differential centre bush which needs replacing. Check this first before you have somebody convince you they need to remove the whole drive train, gearbox included, to fix the problem!
Why does my rear differential make a clunking noise?
If the pinion bearings are the problem, they create more of a whirring noise than a rumble because it turns several times faster than the carrier assembly. Regular clunking every few feet can also be an indicator of a broken pinion gear and/or chipped and damaged ring gear.

What’s the problem with my Chevy Uplander steering?
My ’05 Uplander makes the worst sounds in the right front when going over even the smallest bump. You can push down on the right front of the van and hear it as well. Techs say there is a TSB (which I can’t find) but no fix yet. Also, they say they haven’t had any other complaints on this. Has anyone else had this issue?
