Should my power steering pump pulley move in and out?
Should my power steering pump pulley move in and out?
End play in the power steering pump is normal. Check all of the other pulleys for roughness when the belt is off. If the tensioner is moving it will make noise also.
How does a power steering pump pulley work?
A hydraulic power steering pump is driven by a serpentine or drive belt that is attached to the power steering pump pulley. As the pulley is driven by this belt and begins to spin, it turns an input shaft inside the pump which creates pressure inside of the pump’s housing.
Can a hammer be put on a power steering pulley?
If not get a small ball hone like they use on brake cylinders and give her a few rounds until it slides on the shaft. A hammer onto the pulley is a VERY bad thing for the pump. I’m going to assume that the pump shaft is clean and free of burrs as well. That problem is pretty easy to spot.
How can I tell if my power steering pulley is broken?
When the power steering pump pulley is wearing out or has broken, it may display a few common warning signs that indicate service is needed. You many notice a whining sound coming from the pump pulley, the power steering feeling tight when driving, or the pulley being damaged when a belt breaks.
Is the shaft of a power steering pump still good?
The shaft from the power steering pump has its thread completely grinded down, lost the nut (come to think of it not sure if there is one or if there is even a thread), but the teeth is still in good shape (85%-90%). The belt is fine no cuts no bruises. So I am wondering what is my best option at the moment:

Where is the serpentine belt on a power steering pump?
To remove the serpentine belt, loosen the tensioner pulley that is located on the left side of the motor (as you’re looking at the motor). Once the tensioner pulley is loose, you can slip the belt off rather easily. If your power steering pump is driven by the drive belt, you’ll have to remove this belt as well.
