This 2003 Chevrolet Silverado came in with the air flow stuck on defrost. A simple diagnosis of a code B0263 found a faulty mode actuator. This repair applies to 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe.
What causes trouble code on HVAC door actuator?
The HVAC control head uses its pre-programmed logic and actuator endpoints to position the door correctly. A trouble code may set if the components start to wear and the endpoints drift too far from the pre-programmed positions. Most of these endpoints are calibrated during the relearn procedure.
How to recalibrate the HVAC actuator in a GM Truck?
For manual systems it does not matter where the a/c controls are set but if you feel the need to do something, turn the blower switch on (I prefer speed 3) and set the temperature sliders about .5″ to .75″ from full cold. For auto systems, press the auto button, with the key on. Turn the ignition off.

When it’s time to reconnect it, touch it to the negative battery terminal to make sure any residual electricity is discharged. Start the engine and DO NOT TOUCH THE HVAC CONTROLS FOR 5-10 MINUTES! The system will go through a calibration procedure, all the actuators ( mode, blend, recirc) will calibrate also.
