Is the Ford F-100 steering column still working?

With the help of a great Ford-Trucks member I purchased my F-100 a few years ago and she runs well and drives well overall, but I’ve noticed a few issues I am fairly confident are either interrelated or a sign of a progressive problem.

What kind of steering does a 1966 Ford F-100 have?

1966 F-100, upgraded to power steering and brakes. 350W ?? from an 1980 F-150 ?? The first issue I noticed was that when I made turns (beyond a normal curve in the road), the transmission selector will shift into another position as the wheel turns…D into N or OD ?? depending upon the direction. It was a quirk, sure, but it’s a ’66 who cares.

Is the steering column related to the transmission?

As the heading indicates everything is related to the steering column (or I’m totally wrong), which I know nothing about really. Why are steering columns wrong for Fords?

This particular style is wrong for Fords, WHY ??? this column has a GM Switch so all have to be re wired, No bracket to mount column to the bottom of Dash, Where is the firewall column seal and bracket for the firewall ??? and that’s why we build columns for particular years and WE DO NOT CUT COLUMNS!

What makes up the steering clumn in a truck?

This is just a typical blow up of the various parts that makes up the steering clumn and all related parts for as in this picture fgor 65-73 Trucks,, ALL Other years are very similiar in 2 wheel drive,, 4×4 trucks are different in that areas when it comes to from bottom of column to the gear box

When do you use a steering column bracket?

This bracket was used on late 69 to 76 trucks. If needed call us for which year is needed since the 65/72 cabs have a different bolt pattern than the 73-76 trucks. 1977 trucks did not have any and the cabs are drilled different so this bracket would have to be drilled in cab on when using it on a 77/79 Cab
