How long do Nivomats last?
How long do Nivomats last?
Volvo has used Nivomats for years on their independent rear suspension wagons. They last about 130,000 miles on these applications, but the shocks DO wear out eventually. As was mentioned, you can’t put regular shocks on a Nivomat vehicle since they are designed-in and supplement the regular springs.
How do I know if my shocks are self leveling?
You can look under the car from the rear, if you see large plastic ribbed plastic on the shocks, you likely have Nivomat’s. You can also measure the car before you drive, drive at least a mile and measure again. If you raise at least 1 inch, you likely have them.
Can a Nivomat shock be mounted up or down?
The second configuration has its high pressure accumulator at the top of the shock. This reduces the overall diameter of the shock. This allows the shock to be installed in a more confining space, such as an independent rear wheel drive suspension and can be mounted in a shaft up or down configuration as designed by the manufacturer.
How does The Nivomat system help the driver?
The Nivomat ® takes the energy needed to do so from the relative movements of the wheel and the vehicle body. For every load condition, this maintenance-free system sets the ideal vehicle height, thus ensuring a safe and comfortable drive. Constant heavy or changing loads, as well as trailer dynamics, place high demands on both vehicle and driver.
What are the different types of Nivomat suspensions?
Nivomat suspension units have been used for more than 30 years on a variety of domestic and foreign vehicles, including Volvo, Ford, Opel, Saab, GM, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Rover, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, Kia and others.
How does a Nivomat self leveling monotube ride work?
1. Clamp the shock in a horizontal position using a vice with the shaft fully extended. 2. Center punch a mark 50 mm (2 in) from the top of the tube. 3. Drill a 5 mm (3/16 in) hole to exhaust the gas and oil from the low pressure reservoir.
