You don’t actually have to reset the tank, or you shouldn’t, it operates like your fuel tank. If its warning you it’s low but filling up with 1.5gal, something’s wrong. I usually fill up with 5 gallons at the 999 mile warning. if you keep getting the light you will probably have to go back to the dealer. DEF SUCKS

So I have a 2012 Duramax. The DEF fluid got low. It read 200 miles remaining. So I put more DEF fluid in. It held 1.5 gallons. Which is not enough to fill the tank on that. Still reads 200 miles remaining.

It gave NO warnings about DEF range, etc, as a 2011 should. No problem, I am 1,000 miles from home I will just keep truck running when refilling so I will only have 1 key cycle on the truck.

You cant fill the DEF with the truck running. You have to wait 25-30 minutes with the truck off before filling and restarting. Same thing happened to me yesterday. waited 30 minutes, put 2.5 gallons in, no issues at all right now. I topped my DEF tank (actually over full) before I left on a 4,400 mile tow.
