How do I identify my Chrysler 440?
How do I identify my Chrysler 440?
440 has the engine I.D. codes stamped on a machined flat surface (about 3/4″ x 2″) located in front of the intke manifold towards the dirver’s side of the car on the block. The 383/400 has this pad located just in front of the driver’s side cylinder head where the head bolts to the block. Hope this helps.
What kind of engine does a Dodge 440 have?
Engine Specifications. 1 1966 – 1969 with 4 Barrel Carb (Standard Model) Max Brake Horsepower: 350 @ 4400 rpm. Max Torque: 480 @ 2800 rpm. Stroke: 3.75. Bore: 4.25. 2 1967 – 1970 with 4 Barrel Carb (High Performance Model)
What’s the difference between a 440 and 440 block?
There is no external markings or numbers which show they are different from the other blocks. They DO seem to be more commonly used for truck motors, however just because you have a truck 440 does not mean it will automatically have the thicker main supports.
Which is better a 440 motorhome or 440 car?
Better cooling is always an advantage. I have a motorhome 440 dated 6/7/1974 it is a steel crank sixpack rod factory double roller timing set with the 902 heads, so does that mean that I have a thin wall block or is the mopar engine book misleading? I have personally sonic tested enough 440 blocks to know the Mopar engine book is wrong!
How do you tell the difference between a 383 and 440?
Here’s pictures of a 440 block and 383 block. As stated above, the telltale sign of a 440 block over a 383 is the ID block on the 440 motor (see arrow pointing). The 383 does not have a pad in the same area. The casting numbers also verify it.
