Can you shift from 2HI to 4WD in a GMC Sierra?

In my 04, to shift from 2Hi to Auto 4WD and vice-versa, I can be in any gear. But to go from 2Hi to either 4Hi or 4Low and back again, I have to be in NEUTRAL. Otherwise, the lights on my shifter panel (mine’s push button) flash just the same as yours. Not to sound like a d-bag, but are you engaging the 4WD correctly?

When to shift from manual to 4 wheel drive?

It is sometimes helpful on Manual Shift Transfer cases to keep the vehicle moving below 3-5 mph while shifting into 4 ↓ to allow the gears to align teeth. Once the transfer case is in low-range, shift the transmission back into drive. To shift out of low-range back to high range, follow the same procedures.

Can a GMC transfer case be shifted to four wheel drive?

Since GMC’s transfer cases are designed to be “shifted on the fly,” drivers can shift between high-range two-wheel drive and high-range four-wheel drive without bringing the vehicle to a halt.

Can a 4 wheel drive car be shifted to low range?

Shifting into low-range four-wheel drive is a little more involved than shifting into high-range four-wheel drive. Drivers will need to shift the transmission into neutral to disconnect torque to allow the transfer case to shift gears.
