Can a door knob that has broken open?
Can a door knob that has broken open?
This is also quite an issue because you cannot get your door open as easily as you could with a door knob that has broken. A deadbolt is not spring loaded, so you need the lock to actuate in order for it to open. You might need to really finagle the lock after taking it apart in order to get the lock out of the door to even get it open.
Can a door handle be opened from the outside?
Door handle doesn’t feel loose or anything. Any idea before I open the door panel? There’s two different connecting rods tom the lock (one from the inside handle and one from the outside). The only way to tell what’s wrong is to remove the inner door panel…it should be obvious (famous last words).
Why is the handle on my Kitchen Door not working?
Son has just unscrewed the handle plate on this side, pulled the ‘square’ stick bit out and can see that the die cast bit that it slots into is cracked and in several pieces. Can’t really see what bit to wiggle with to make the bit that goes into the bit on the door frame move? You need to turn that die cast bit.
What to do if a door handle does not retract?
Take the handles/knobs off of the door. Remove the handles, including the thru spindle. Use a tool (a flathead screwdriver will work) to twist within the gap the thru spindle inserts into. See if this retracts the handle. If the latch retracts, then the handles are not secured to the thru spindle properly.

Why does my door handle turn but not open?
The problem might be with the spindle, the handles themselves, or the pressure that keeps them in solid contact with one another. Check for wear on all of these parts and replace what is damaged. If there is no damage, make sure that the handles are secured to the door with enough pressure so that their turning manipulates the spindle.
What can I use to open a door latch that is jammed?
Once you’ve removed the handle, you can try to manually open the latch with either a pair of needle-nose pliers or a large flathead screwdriver. You’ll be able to see where the door handle spindle enters the dead latch mechanism. When you spin the handle to open a door this is also where the turn of the handle makes the latch pull back.
