Can a car start with no fuel in the carburetor?
It acts like there is no fuel in the carburetor and needs to crank for several (4+) tries before it starts. Once it starts, it will start instantly anytime afterwards until it sits again. The engine is stock except for an HEI distributor (GM). The engine runs great once it’s started.

What? well my trck will not start up unless i spray some starting fluid in the tbi, but one its on on it runs great with no problem. i just changed my fuel filter, injector and did a tune up on it what can it be. Click to expand… fuel pump man, these things quit alot… has the truck sat for a while?

If the engine still doesn’t seem like it wants to start, probably fuel is getting into the cylinders and your problems lies somewhere else. However, if the engine runs momentarily and dies, then the problem is that fuel is not getting to the cylinders. Check for a clogged fuel filter, or a bad fuel pressure regulator.
