Why is the rear latch on my Ford Escape not working?

The back of the vehicle, hatch I guess, is not opening on a regular basis. It seems to be an electrical problem. I will lock and unlock the vehicle sometimes it opens other times it does not. Again I believe this should be a recall. Without warning, the rear latch has stopped working on my 2010 Ford Escape.

A belonging may be trapped in the lock mechanism or whether stripping near the latch. You may want to ask another person for help. You push inward onto the hatch, close to the latch. Have your helper activate the unlock mechanism and then you try to open the hatch.
