Why does my Silverado Sierra engine keep stalling?

I think you have water in the fuel. Whenever I remove a fuel filter, I dump the contents onto a bench or glass jar and look at it. Remove a fuel line and get a fuel sample. It could also be a IAC issue or a gummed up throttle body. Might try and clean the throttle body and iac.

I drove it more tonight and found it to stall randomly as my son described, seems to be at idle or when not on the gas. A couple times it would not start back up unless I pressed on the gas peddle, then it starts. It seems to never stall when under acceleration, only when off the gas.

Why is my Chevy truck bucking at idle?

During idle it would sound as if it were about to shut off but it wouldn’t. Rough idle and hesitation sounded like a vacuum problem, so I checked the TBI. The EGR valve was faulty so I replaced it. That fixed the rough idle and it drove fine for a day or two. But then yesterday and today, my truck began to buck pretty hard.

Why is my car stalling with no change?

It could also be a IAC issue or a gummed up throttle body. Might try and clean the throttle body and iac. Thanks for the replies, I have considered some of these scenarios. When this started, the fuel tank was 1/4 full, ran most of that out and have since put fresh gas in and still no change.

What was the problem with my Chevy truck?

Okay, after about 45mins of driving, this is what was going on. the engine drove fine. the problem this time was with the transmission! It would not kick back down or downshift properly. It would just cause the engine to rev and rev. But after about 10mins of that, it went away.

What causes stalling on a 1990 Chevy k1500?

So far it has a new distributor (for an unrelated problem), idle valve, throttle position sensor, knock sensor, temperature sensor, fuel filter, plugs & wires. The idle valve and tpi both tested bad, and replacing them helped on general driveability but didn’t affect the stalling.

Why is my GMC Sierra 1500 stalling and dying?

There is no code given. Have changed the injectors, timing, fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel pump, map sensor, cooling temp sensor on front of block, rebuilt the tbi, air idea valve. None of this hasite helped. The truck starts and dies. Have to give a little gas to keep running. While driving have to 2 foot it so it won’t die.

Why does my Silverado k1500 stall at traffic lights?

In neutral it will run indefinitely, although it gets a little rough. Pulling a vacuum line will raise the idle, but doesn’t help when you put it in gear. Pulling to a traffic light with the a/c on high, it will idle perfectly for a few seconds, then start gradually dropping, finally shudder and die after 15 -30 seconds.

What causes engine knock on a 4.3L Vortec?

Engine knock can be caused by a ton of factors, such as low-grade fuel, bad spark plugs, carbon build-up, etc. Engine knock is terrible for your engines internals and can cause serious damage to the pistons and to the cylinder walls. On the 4.3L vortec, the cause of the engine knock has not necessarily been figured out, still to this day.

Why does my 6.5L diesel pump stall?

Check these items before replacing your 6.5 PMD. SYMPTOM: Your 6.5L Diesel stalls just as if someone had reached over and turned off the ignition switch. CAUSE: There are two main causes. Why does my diesel engine stop running mid stream?

The most common reason for a diesel to stop running mid-stream like that is b/c of lack of fuel. So your idea to replace the lower fuel pump and fuel filter was a good bet. A faulty injection pump could be the reason it is still doing it though.

Can a stalling engine be intermittent driveability?

Intermittent driveability problems of any kind are always a challenge to diagnose. When a customer brings you a vehicle and complains of a stalling problem, you may not have much to go on other than their description of what’s happening and when it happens.

What causes a Chevy 4.3 engine to stall?

Lack of oil will cause a knocking sound in the engine, stalling, poor acceleration and eventually engine break down. Lack of transmission fluid, battery fluids, radiator and cooling system fluids can all cause symptoms that mimic bad idle air control valves and throttle control switches.

Why does my GMC S15 stall after dying?

After it dies, it is very hard to restart unless it is left alone and cools a bit. If the IAC is unplugged, the engine will run at high idle fine. When plugged back in, the correct idle resumes and it may run a few seconds or a minute before it dies. I am getting fuel to the injectors. Any ideas on what is wrong?

Are there any problems with the Chevy 4.3 Vortec engine?

The 4.3 Vortec engines made from 1996-2002 (L35 and LF6) have been reported to have engine knock problems. In a properly functioning engine, fuel burns in even pockets instead of all at once. The pockets burn in even timing, in sync with engine cycles. Engine knock occurs when the fuel burns unevenly and out of sync with the engine cycles.

What causes a Chevy Silverado to stall at traffic lights?

My Chevrolet Silverado 2002 stalls in the traffic lights. I’ve been told the cause might be the fuel pump, any other suggestions? Thanks, sam, you were right. The valve was loose and thus absorbing air.

Why is my Chevy Vortec 4300 V6 leaking fuel?

In the L35 and LF6 engines, the spider injectors are known to leak at the pressure regulator and at the supply and return lines due to a design fault. Outside of leaking fuel onto the exterior of the engine itself, it can cause excess fuel to get sucked into the engine.

Why does my car stall at highway speeds?

The engine may start and idle fine, but run out of power or even stall at highway speeds. If the engine starts right back up after stalling, the likely cause is low fuel volume delivery because of a weak pump. If the engine is running normally one minute, but suddenly quits, loss of ignition may be the problem.

Why does my car keep stalling at idle?

However it still appears to happen only at idle or when the throttle body is closed which may suggest the IAC as the problem. Keep the ideas coming as random is this happens, the frequency seems to be increasing, but I still can’t identify the point of failure. zacharyh687 wrote: It could also be a IAC issue or a gummed up throttle body.

What was the spark plug on my Silverado Sierra?

Pulled spark plug to check for spark which it had however plugs were bad and the spark was orange instead of blue. I preceded to replace the fuel filter to see if that might be it, (kinda reaching). After filter was replaced, I was able to start the truck and get it home.

Why does my Chevy Silverado idle at 500 rpm?

Reasoning is emissions related and the truck will automatically run it (choak it) @ ~1K +/- cold until enough heat has been generated then drop it down. But as wisely suggested above, good fuel additives can be really helpful. I’ll add chevron’s techron to the list.

What’s the idle speed of a Chevy truck?

Thanks. Last edited by EKinMN on Nov 11 2011, 2:54am, edited 1 time in total. Most trucks start up at about 1000 RPM, and then drop down when it warms up. Although mine is a lot different than yours, I can tell you it will idle down to about 500 RPM when warm.

What causes a Chevy Silverado to run rough?

If an oxygen sensor goes bad, it can make your Silverado run too lean (or rich). A super lean running engine will often idle rough. Fuel Injectors. The fuel injection systems job is to atomize the fuel into fine mist.

What should the RPM be on a Chevy Silverado?

Farside, we have the same trucks (roughly). At cold start, mine jumps to 1400-1500. It quickly drops down to 1,000. After it warms up, it is consistent at 500-600. So I think yours is pretty normal. If it is sluggish, I agree with using a Top Tier fuel, and a can of Sea Foam or Amsoil Performance Plus in the next tank.
