To all of those who have had the flapping noise happening behind the passenger side of the dash when the fresh air is selected on the hvac (and the noise goes away when you switch to recirculate), I have fixed it.

Putting the old on back on would suck. Once you re-attach the wiring, proceed to reassemble the dash as indicated in the dash removal instructions.Follow the precautions to make sure the airbags don’t explode, turn on the car and verify that the flapping noise is gone. It was on mine, so I am happy now.

There are at least 4 of these actuators in your system and one of them is going bad and would need to be replaced. The one that is making the noise It’s hard to specify wxactly which one without checking the system first hand.

Sounds like its a blend door actuator. They go bad at the most inopportune times. Ive had to replace all three in my Chevy Impala. I havent looked at my JKUR to see where they are, but sounds like thats the culprit. Easily replaceable (depending on location) and about $20-$30 for the part.

My 2005 Pontiac Vibe started spontaneously making a strange ticking noise after a grocery run. It’s loud, and doesn’t accelerate in time with the engine, so we have ruled out fan for now. It sounds like it’s coming from almost directly behind the radio console and has the speed and timbre of a fast, old-fashioned tick tock metronome.
