Why does my Ford Ka make a rattling noise?

Why does my Ford Ka make a rattling noise?

If you depress the clutch pedal it starts making a rattling noise from somewhere under the bonnet, and if you apply steering lock at this point it gets approx. twice as loud. I can’t see anything untoward around the engine and all fluid levels are okay (save the brake fluid, which is on the ‘low’ marker).

What happens when you depress the clutch pedal?

When you depress the clutch pedal, this force is transferred to the clutch fork (usually hydraulically). The clutch fork is attached to one end of the throw out bearing. The clutch fork pivots with the movement of the clutch pedal, with the “forked” end pushing the throw out bearing toward the pressure plate.

What causes a clutch release bearing to rattle?

A clutch release bearing has rollers which cannot have too much space in between them. But if the bearing gets worn out, then it will have more clearances in this area. This will cause the bearing to rattle around more and start making lots of strange sounds.

What makes a rattling noise when the clutch pedal is depressed?

When fully depressed it is quite a noise..starts low but gets louder after 5 seconds or so…..it sounds like something mechanical is loose….not just a bearing going out. In fact the sound seem to spread to the entire engine….so I think Alex and Mike might be right about the flywheel.

Feeling Vibrations. If you are feeling some pulsations or vibrations on the clutch pedal, this may be the clutch fork coming loose or it could be a more serious problem and you need to check it out as soon as possible.
