It could be multiple things- front drive shaft, rear shaft, u joint or bad differential The thudding is coming from the front drivers side of the truck which I’m assuming it’s the cv joint making the thud. What doesn’t make sense to me is how the cv joint got so loose while driving it within 5 miles.

Why does my Dodge Ram shaft keep acting up?
Well if he didnt lock the cv shaft in place properly after changing that would explain why it started acting up right after. Also when this happens it can ruin the splines on the inside of the diff along with the new shaft. But like the other guy said its hard to diagnose without actually being there.
