Why does my Chevy Avalanche make a noise when I stop?

If I apply the brakes and stop with the wheels turned left or right (as at a ‘T’ intersection) there is a wierd noise like a brake dragging or a locked-up differential. It’s wierd because it doesn’t make the noise if the wheelsremain straight when stopped. I can then turn them and there’s no noise. What gives? I have the same problem.
