Where is the C4 transmission modulator valve located?

Where is the C4 transmission modulator valve located?

Locate the C4 transmission modulator at the rear of the transmission. It can be identified by a small rubber vacuum hose that connects to it. The other end of the hose is attached to a steel tube that rises up to the engine. Remove the rubber hose from the modulator nipple by pulling it straight back by hand.

What kind of valve body does a Ford C4 use?

It was known as Select-Shift, which meant a redesigned valve body that was used through 1969. This is the valve body you want for your 1964– 1966 C4 street/strip transmission because it drops right in without modifications. You have to change your shifter to a P-R-N-D-2-1 with the change to a 1967–1969 valve body.

Do you need aftermarket valvebodies for C4 transmission?

This thread is for build-up and race prepping a C4 transmission without any need for aftermarket kits or valvebodies. It is intended for those who already know how to properly take measurements and rebuild a C4 using factory tolerances and clearances.

When did Ford stop using the C4 transmission?

The C-4 was a remarkably long-lasting transmission and was in use until 1981, at which point it was replaced with the C-5, which was essentially a C-4 transmission with a locking torque converter.

How can you tell if it is a C4 transmission?

It is just a basic valve that pops open when the case gets enough pressure. If you happen to be looking at a transmission without a tail shaft/transfer case you can identify it as a C4 4×4 transmission by the tube coming from where the jiggle pin normally would be. Either way, if you see the jiggle pin you know you have found a 1970+ model.
