When does a Ford Laser lose its power?

I own a Ford Laser LXi 2000 model and have recently encounted a problem. My laser loses its power when going up hills, during highway travel and apond departures from red lights, even when the pedal is completely stepped on. During highway travel, the car cannot travel over 80km/h.

What to do if brakes snap on 2001 LASER?

Belts are cheap and if they snap could overheat engine if say water pump stops turning. Flush coolant, replace break fluid, perhaps auto trans fluid, top up power steering fluid if it needs it, etc. The brakes will sort themselves out once you used them again, just check that nothings seized though from sitting so long and perhaps rusted a bit?

Bad: do not know timing belt condition, squeeky breaks (brakes), did not look like a clean engine but no signs of leakage or accidents either
