What should timing be at WOT?
What should timing be at WOT?
At WOT, the air and fuel are tightly packed and burn quickly so we don’t need as much timing. At 2,800 rpm at WOT, 32 to 34 degrees of timing could be just about right for a typical pump gas street engine.
Where to set the timing on a 1969 383?
Ok guys…I am ready to attempt to time my 1969 383. Currently, it has a 750 Edelbrock that is leaking vacuum (going to replace it soon…I hope), an MSD Blaster coil, and a standard distributor. I’m at about 6,000 feet above sea level in Colorado.
How to set timing on a Mopar engine?
The purpose of this document is to describe the precise way to set timing on your Mopar engine. It applies to non-computer controlled engines only. The author accepts no responsibility for your safety or the safety of your vehicle by using the instructions included in this document.
How do you change the timing on a vacuum advance?
Remove the rubber hose from the vacuum distributor vacuum advance and plug it with the tip of a pencil. If your engine is 1982 or later and has an EGR valve, remove the rubber hose from it and plug it with a pencil. Use a wrench to loosen the distributor hold-down bolt.
Which is the best timing for an engine?
The maximum timing is the most critical from a performance standpoint. An engine needs less timing (fewer degrees of advance) at low RPM and more at increased RPM. The increase in BTDC degrees occurs over a smooth line as engine RPM increases. The line may be linear or exponential depending on the type of equipment added to control timing. 2

How can I set my engine timing from scratch?
You could probably use more initial advance. To set initial timing from scratch I hand rotate the engine till the timing mark on the damper is about 8 advanced TDC #1. With the key on I rotate the dist till I get a spark (coil wire disconnected from dist cap and close to a ground).
