Where is the coolant in the radiator when there is no leak?

There’s a COLD/MIN label on the tank indicating the ideal antifreeze level when the engine is cold. The coolant in the radiator should be just below the filler neck. When you are losing coolant but no leak is visible, several parts could be the guilty party.

Are there any problems with the Triton V10 engine?

Pre-2002 V10 Triton engines have an unfortunate design flaw within the cylinder head and spark plug designs that can cause the plugs to actually eject out of cylinder head, or weld themselves to it. The Triton V10 engines used a cast iron engine block and aluminum cylinder heads that have centrally mounted spark plugs.

What should I do if my car is losing coolant?

Engine overheating and coolant are closely related to each other. Loss of the liquid can lead to the overheated condition but overheating can also contribute to the coolant loss. Just fill up the tank to the maximum limit and keep an eye on the engine condition and the rate of coolant usage.

My 4.2L has 1.75g in the radiator and 2.45g in the block. DW’s 3.6L has 0.75g in the radiator and 1.65g in the block. Our 460 in the RV has 3g in the radiator and 3g in the block.

When to change the coolant on a Ford V-10?

The Ford maintenance schedule says to change the Premium Gold coolant after 5 years. The service instructions I found on the Ford web site say to just drain the radiator and refill. Does anyone know what percentage of the coolant gets drained this way? Does the V-10 have drain plugs to allow the block to be drained?

What kind of coolant should I use on my Ford truck?

Any brand of coolant that meets Ford coolant specifications (typically found on the back label) for your particular vehicle will be suitable. That said, if you have a newer truck that is still under warranty, it is highly recommended that Motorcraft coolant be used in order to meet warranty requirements. Can I mix different types of coolant?

Is there a coolant block in the radiator?

Our 460 in the RV has 3g in the radiator and 3g in the block. My point is that you may want to consider draining your V10, as I suspect at least half the coolant is in the block. I thoroughly flushed mine last year then added concentrate (not 50/50) to achieve a 50% concentration, which was checked with a refractometer (very accurate).
