What kind of brakes do GMC Sierra 1500 have?

I have a 2003 Gmc Sierra 1500 ext cab 4×4 Z71. Ive only owned it a little over a year but as long as Ive had it the brakes have been very soft, I have to push the pedal nearly to the floor for anything to happen. I was going to start replacing all the calipers, rotors and pads but though I might be able to find some upgraded parts form newer years.

What causes a soft brake pedal on a Chevy?

Soft or Spongy Brake Pedal: Too much air in the system due to improper bleeding is usually the cause of this problem. However, it can also be due to fluid loss or a low fluid level. Bleed the brake lines as recommended by Chevy to fix this. You could also have a ballooning brake hose when the brakes are applied.

What causes spongy brake pads on GM trucks?

Although you already bled the system, make sure that you got all of the old fluid out. Bleed until clean fluid comes through. This is a common problem on the GM trucks. The problem is with the pins that the caliper slides on and the fit of the pads in the caliper. Start by removing the pins and make sure they are clean and free of corrosion.

How can I tell if my Silverado has spongy brakes?

If one is noticeably softer than the other, trace the line along that route and test each component (E.G., flexible lines for swelling under pressure, wheel caliper leaks). Also check to see that rotor thickness is still within specs. Although you already bled the system, make sure that you got all of the old fluid out.

Why are there no brakes on my Silverado?

I also had to change the calipers and because of a stupid mistake, the master cylinder sucked air on my 2011 Silverado. I then had no brakes at all, the pedal went without any resistance straight to the floor.
