What is XY shifter?
What is XY shifter?
Briefly, X-Y shifters are devices which control the X—X (or selection directional) and the Y—Y (or engage/not-engaged directional) position of a shift member, such as a shift finger or the like. Typically, two separate fluid or electric motors are used to control the X—X and Y—Y positions.
How does Eaton UltraShift work?
Built upon the Fuller 13- and 18-speed manual transmissions, the UltraShift PLUS Performance Series uses an electronic clutch actuator to provide faster shifting and smoother engagement. At idle, it fully engages the clutch giving the driver ultimate control in challenging situations.
What causes hard shifting on an Eaton transmission?
Linkage problems stem from worn connections or bushings, binding, improper adjustment, lack of lubrication on the joints or an obstruction which restricts free movement. To determine if the transmission itself is the cause of hard shifting, remove the shift lever or linkage from the top of the transmission.
Why does my SMARTSHIFT not go into gear?
Elaborate a bit please. Won’t go into gear… while you’re stopped? Like I said in another thread, if an autoshift has the clutch not adjusted correctly, the clutch brake won’t be reached, and the transmission won’t go into gear until the input shaft is stopped.
What are the problems with an Eaton Fuller transmission?
Oil level too low or too high, wrong type of oil, or an operating angle of more than 12 degrees. 2. Operating consistently under 20 MPH. 3. High engine RPM. 4. Restricted air flow around transmission, due to the transmission being “boxed in” by frame rails, deck lids, fuel tanks and mounting brackets, or by a large bumper assembly.
Why do I have power surges on my SMARTSHIFT?
They’re not “hot flashes”…they’re POWER SURGES! I can’t speak to the Meritor as my only experience is with Eaton. My first inclination based on what you said is the you’ve got an electrical issue, either in the ECU on the transmission itself or somewhere in the wiring, i.e., bad ground or harness.

What are the common problems with auto shift transmissions?
Auto-Shift Transmission Common Problems. Fuller’s auto-shift transmissions are a boon to drivers but sometimes a headache for mechanics. Auto-shift transmissions use what is essentially an ordinary manual transmission with an electric-motor-driven shifter assembly and an on-board electronic control unit (ECU).
