What is the camshaft correlation code for a 98 k1500?

What is the camshaft correlation code for a 98 k1500?

A so I have a 98 k1500 with the 5.7 vortec and im havimg trouble with a code. The code is the dreaded p1345 camshaft crankshaft correlation. When I checked my timing with a timing light it was about 1/4″ off but runs great so I tried to re time it and the closer I get to the timing mark the worse it runs till it wont start.

When does a camshaft position sensor need to be set?

Last edited by jepics on Dec 24 2011, 8:02pm, edited 1 time in total. You will have to have a diagnostic tool to properly set the distributor. The distributor in your truck contains the camshaft position sensor. You do not adjust the timing on yours like the old engines.

What causes an engine code on a Chevy Vortec?

While this error code can be caused by a faulty camshaft position sensor (CMP) or crankshaft position sensor (CPS), the issue a lot of the time relates to engine timing. On older Chevy engines, specifically the 5.7 Vortec, for which this code is most common, the problem generally stems from the Distributor positioning.

What causes a broken crankshaft and camshaft sensor?

Damaged, burnt, shorted, disconnected, or corroded wiring and/or connectors in wiring that is associated with either, or both the crank -, and camshaft position sensors Defective, cracked, clogged, damaged, or broken crankshaft-mounted reluctor ring.

What is the CKP sensor on a p1345 Chevy?

P1345 Chevrolet Description. The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is a permanent magnet generator, known as a variable reluctance sensor. The magnetic field of the sensor is altered by a crankshaft mounted reluctor wheel that has seven machined slots, 6 of which are equally spaced 60 degrees apart.

What causes the engine code on a Chevy p1345?

On the 5.7 Vortec however, engine timing can require manually adjustment when it gets out of spec, and poor timing is the main cause of the P1345 engine code. What Causes the P1345 Engine Code?

Are there timing marks on a 1997 C / K 1500?

Late 80’s and early 90’s had the brown wire that needed to be disconnected, but with the spider injection, the timing is controlled by the computer. 23 people found this helpful. Wow ! – Almost two years to figure out that a 1997 5.7 Distributor does NOT have a little wire to unplug ! Mechanically the engine must be set to Top Dead Center.

How to set timing on Vortec 5.7 CarGurus?

YOU MUST USE A SCAN TOOL TO SET TIMING ON VORTEC 5.7 Here at our repair shop we have the factory GM tech2 scan tool. You will be able to read the timing degrees with that. If the timing is off by more than 2 Degrees it will set a check engine light. Once you have the timing correct, you MUST do a procedure called (cam crank variation re-learn).

Do You need A Scanner to set timing?

I searched “Vortec timing” but none of the results matched my needs. This is actually my ’99 Suburban, but it has the old 5.7 Vortec. Anyway, when I got it, it didn’t run. Found the gears on the distributor were worn off so the engine came out and a complete tear down/overhaul.
