Overview. ACL advocates across the federal government for older adults, people with disabilities, and families and caregivers; funds services and supports provided primarily by states and networks of community-based programs; and invests in training, education, research, and innovation.
What is an ACL grant?
ACL awards grants to states and organizations that provide services and supports for older adults and people with disabilities, conduct research, and develop innovative approaches to doing both.
What are independent living services?
A private service which offers assistance within and outside the home, to people who are elderly, have a disability, are housebound, are recovering from an illness, or need short term care to cope with a crisis, or carer relief. 24 hour relief is available. The service covers all of NSW.
What is the ACL government?
The Administration for Community Living (ACL) is part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. It is headed by the Administrator and Assistant Secretary for Aging, who reports directly to the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
How is ACL funded?
The Administration for Community Living (ACL) will continue activities funded through carryover funding provided under the Health Care Fraud and Abuse Control (HCFAC) Account and carryover funding from the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA).
What services does the ACL provide?
The ACL offers consumer protections in the areas of:
- unfair contract terms, covering standard form consumer contracts.
- consumer rights when buying goods and services.
- product safety.
- unsolicited consumer agreements covering door-to-door sales and telephone sales.
- lay-by agreements.
How does independent living work?
The independent living lifestyle offers residents a safe living environment, but with minimal assistance. Hospitality services, such as housekeeping, meals, and laundry may or may not be included in the monthly rental, but are typically available.
Who is eligible for supported living?
Supported living is available for people who:
- are aged 18 years or more;
- are ordinarily resident in Haringey and/or registered with a Haringey GP;
- have been assessed by the council as eligible for services under the 2014 Care Act, or have similar needs and can pay for their own support;
What is a communal living arrangement?
Cohousing is an arrangement in which many people live together in a community, with small homes for each person or family and larger areas that are shared by all. People who live in cohousing arrangements can save money, share chores, enjoy group activities, and form lasting friendships.
Why was the Administration for Community Living ACL established?
The Administration for Community Living was created around the fundamental principle that older adults and people of all ages with disabilities should be able to live where they choose, with the people they choose, and with the ability to participate fully in their communities.
Does the ACL apply to free services?
Some examples of how you must comply with the ACL include: If your customers asks for an itemised bill, you must provide it free of charge. If you sell goods or services worth more than $75 (excluding GST), you must give your customer a receipt.
