The Academic Foundation Programme (AFP) can be seen as an extension of the normal FP. It was developed as part of the Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) scheme. It allows doctors to explore a range of academic interests, gain additional qualifications, build their portfolio and experience life as a clinical academic.
