What causes a diesel engine to go into restricted mode?
What causes a diesel engine to go into restricted mode?
Electronic diesel control system in limp home mode or restricted mode. Turbocharger system fault. Restricted exhaust system. Road speed limiter incorrectly set or system fault. Engine temperature fault. Vehicle braking system not releasing.
What happens when the engine failsafe mode is activated?
Once this failsafe or limp mode has been activated, the ECU will limit the vehicle’s ability to drive normally. In some instances, the ECU will permit you to limp home or to a mechanic but will restrict the performance or speed of the vehicle, so the damage will not get worse.
What are the common fault codes for diesel engines?
Common rail pressure fault (may set P087 or P088 fault code) Failure of an electronic control system sensor / wiring. Fault codes logged on Diesel control unit (DCU) preventing startup. Failure of Diesel control unit . Air intake System blocked / restricted. Exhaust system blocked or restricted. Engine condition causing low compression pressure.
What do you call the engine cut off safety feature?
This is essentially where the engine failsafe mode comes into play. Some people call it limp mode, and in other instances, it’s referred to as an engine cut off safety feature.

Why did my Ford Focus go into reduced speed mode?
It has two sensors (A and B) and if the position indicated by the two sensors differs more than a certain amount this error is triggered (as clearly boths sensors can’t be right!) and then engine switches to reduced speed mode. The relatively cheap code scanner I used can ONLY pick up this error while the ignition is still on following the error.
What to do if your Ford PowerStroke has a DEF system fault?
Some 2011-2012 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine and built on or before 10/11/2011 may exhibit a MIL on with DTCs P207F, P20EE, P2200, P2201, P2209, P164A, P2A00 and/or P0133. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. 1. Connect Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool to the data link connector (DLC).
