What are chains and binders in trucking?
Also known as load binders, chain binders are essential tie down equipment in the flatbed industry. We carry two styles of binders, ratchet-style and lever-style. A ratchet binder uses a ratcheting mechanism to tension the chain, while a lever binder uses leverage to tighten and secure the load.
What size chain binder do I need?
The load being tied down must not exceed the combined WLL of all the chains being used. For example, if your cargo weighs 8,000 lbs and you will use 4 chains, each chain must have a WLL of at least 2,000 lbs. Four chains of 2,000 lbs WLL each will equal 8,000 lbs total, enough capacity to secure an 8,000 lb load.
Are chain binders legal?
Their perfectly legal as long as their is a WLL (Working Load Limit) on them and you can prove your securement meets the min dot standards. I Hate ratchet chain binders.
