When the engine is put under a load by the AC system, the car’s computer automatically attempts to compensate for that by adjusting the idle. If there is carbon buildup within any part of the system, including the idle air control valve, throttle body, or possibly even the EGR valve, it can cause surging.
Why does the a / C go out after 20 minutes?
Sometimes it will go out again after 20 minutes and sometimes it will work fine for an hour + ride. I had the A/C system evacuated and charged with Freon, It wasn’t low we recovered 1lb 2oz and put back in the same amount. Where do I go from here? What do you think it could be? It sounds like the compressor is supplying too much pressure and the metering orifice into the heat exchanger is freezing. Exactly when it stops working, pull over safely, pop the hood and find the aluminum bottle near the back of the engine compartment. It should be covered with condensation, but I’m guessing it’ll be iced over. helpful?

What happens when you turn off the a / C on a Silverado?
Basically the a/c stops cooling after a while, sometimes 30 mins to an hour. It doesn’t blow heat, just becomes ambient, musty and damp, on both the passenger and drivers side. I can switch the sytem off, keep driving for 5 mins, switch it on and it will cool nicely.
