The Oil Pressure Light is on If the Low Oil Light comes on, but you check the oil in the engine and it’s at a good level, then a faulty oil pressure sensor may be to blame. When this sensor goes bad, it will start to give inaccurate readings. After the readings fall out of specification, a warning light is set.

You don’t want to be driving it that much if your low on oil pressure. If its coming on while driving I would bet that the actual oil pressure is good. I say this because if you have low pressure at higher RPMs you would have consistently low oil pressure at low RPMs.

Why does my oil pressure light go off when I Change Oil?
What probably has happened is that the oil was thinner from age and the oil change temporarily helped (assuming the oil wasn’t low on the dipstick before the change). The underlying cause is probably still the oil pressure sending unit. Lower idle = lower oil pressure. 3K is probably changing the oil more frequently then necessary.
