How often should you replace intake manifold bolts?
Select your preferred location and we’ll note which parts are ready to be picked up TODAY. Some engine builders suggest replacing the intake manifold bolts every time you remove the intake manifold.
What’s the best way to remove a manifold?
I would remove the remaining bolts if possible, and attempt to lift the manifold off enough to rotate and clear. If it works, use the penetrating oil and heat as previously suggested then vice grips on the bolt shaft. Caution on heat, turning while very hot will just twist off the bolt again. I think you’ve got the right answer.
Can you use torque to yield fasteners on intake manifolds?
This is certainly true of torque-to-yield (TTY) fasteners, and if the bolts on your barn find look corroded or damaged, you wouldn’t want to compromise your rebuild by re-using them. However, with proper installation, high-quality intake manifold bolts—like the ones carried by Summit Racing Equipment—can be used over and over again!
Do you have to use an extractor on a manifold?
The bolt extractors should really be a last resort. The extractors are much harder than the original bolt, and if that extractor breaks off inside the bolt, you just made your job a lot more difficult. Drilling through normal manifold bolts is cake compared to drilling out an extractor.

How do you remove an inlet manifold on a Land Cruiser?
Part of the install of my LPG kit is to fit the gas injection nozzles into the inlet manifold and as that involves drilling and tapping holes it means the manifold needs to come off. Disconnected the injectors and various pipes including the fuel line in and return. Unbolted the throttle body and pulled it forwards out of the way:
