I can’t open the bonnet on my ford focus cc, the key turns in it but nothing happens. I took it to a ford dealer and they have suggest destroying the grille and replacing the lock for between £280 and £400. I have heard about a screwdriver alternative pushing it into the white area where the cable goes in but I can’t get it to work.

There are 3 parts to the lock. the barrel and cable, the white mid assembly and the lock itself. Between the white bit and the lock is a small cross shaped piece of plastic if this unclips from the mid assembly then the bonnet won’t open but you may hear clicking and a feel a slight resistance.

Why is the latch not working on my Ford C Max?
The bonnet latch won’t release for a few reasons. If the lock assembly has become detached from the grille (this is obvious). If the cable between the lock and latch is twisting instead of releasing the latch. Finally the little white cross shaped clip has broken.
