How do you know if you have a bad Ficm?

A failing FICM can cause all sorts of problems, but one of the most common symptoms is an engine that is hard to get started, especially when the engine is cold or has sat overnight. Another symptom commonly seen is the engine is running rough or misfiring all of the time, or after the engine is warmed up.

What are the symptoms of a bad Ficm relay?

A dead FICM will therefore leave the system with no way to actuate an injector and the engine will not start. A weak or failing FICM will contribute to hard start, rough idle, and/or intermittent rough running conditions.

What is a BulletProof Ficm?

The BulletProof FICM is an upgraded power supply which is now available in both a 4-phase or 6-phase version. The improved circuitry and upgraded components – combined with additional circuits – means this power supply is worthy of the name Bullet Proof Diesel.

Will a bad Ficm throw a code?

Often a bad FICM will throw injector misfire codes or even PCM error codes. x2 on checking voltage, but FICMS can have proper voltage and still be bad. The voltage test just verifies that the capacitors are okay, that’s how it steps up voltage.

What does a upgraded Ficm do?

To actuate the injector solenoids the FICM must have the correct voltage either 48 volt or 58 volt. Upgraded FICM’s are offered at a 58 volt. Running a 58 volt FICM will help with pedal response, hold the injector spool valve further open, increase horsepower(~30hp) and better cold climate starting.

Do you have to program a new Ficm?

If you buy a new one from Ford it comes blank and needs to be reprogrammed to your truck specs. A rebuilt one may or not be depends on the rebuilder.

Can you bench test a Ficm?

Technically you can, but you could only test the power supply portion of the circuits and you would need injectors that could be wired up to the FICM.

Are 6.0 Ficm interchangeable?

Yes, they are interchangeable. The FICM from any year 6.0 will work on every other year 6.0. The software may need updated to keep from getting a soft code for software incompatibility but the parts will interchange..

Calibration concerns, powertrain component faults and FICM malfunctions may produce similar drivability concerns. NOTE: The most common symptoms of a failed FICM are: NO START or CONSTANT MISFIRE AT ALL ENGINE TEMPERATURES.

What is the purpose of the 6.0 Powerstroke FICM?

The primary purpose of the 6.0 Powerstroke FICM is to generate the 48 volt signal to operate the engine’s fuel injectors. As the FICM starts to fail, this output voltage begins to drop. Before condemning the FICM, it is critical to ensure that it has sufficient supply voltage from the vehicle – low voltage in equals low voltage out!

When did Ford introduce the 6.0 liter V-8?

Ford introduced the 6.0-liter Power Stroke V-8 in 2003, as a new and purportedly better replacement for the 7.3. Both engines used electronic fuel injection, but while the 1994-2003 7.3 was controlled by an injector control module, or ICM, the new 6.0L engine used a new unit called the fuel injection control module, or FICM.
