Locating a Short. Finding a short in a wire requires you first knowing that the short is there. Sometimes the signs of a short are easy to detect, such as experiencing problems with your heating and cooling system because there’s suddenly no voltage at the thermostat.

What causes the underground wire short in New Hampshire?

There was one piece of 3/4-inch PVC conduit that ran under the blacktop driveway. On either side of the conduit, the wire was buried in the rocky soil without a conduit.
